Apple has not released an official explanation. Industry insiders link this move to the Qualcomm supply contract signed in 2023. The modem supply deal covers new iPhones launched from 2024 to 2026, and the patent license lasts until March 2027. Analysts believe Apple only keeps Qualcomm’s chip on the US Pro Max to fulfill the contract with minimal changes, avoiding full reliance on Qualcomm without breaking the agreement.

从技术层面来看，C2 基带终于补上短板，原生支持美国毫米波 5G 网络。苹果官方数据显示，C2 上传速度大幅提升，整体功耗降低 15%。但高通长期深耕美区毫米波技术，苹果自研基带依旧处在追赶阶段。而 Pro Max 机身空间更大、电池容量更高，刚好可以抵消高通基带功耗偏高的问题。
Technically, the C2 modem finally supports US mmWave 5G, a feature missing on earlier C1 and C1X chips. Apple claims faster upload speeds and 15% lower power consumption. However, Qualcomm has years of experience with US mmWave networks, so Apple is still catching up. The Pro Max’s larger body and bigger battery can easily offset the higher power draw of the Qualcomm modem.
